Itropa is a mod for NeverWinter Nights. It is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. It takes place in an alternate universe, where technology has developed at a different rate than our own. For example, they have teleportation, but never invented cars... but why would they need cars, when they can teleport? Admittedly, most of Itropa's choices of scientific development are actually rationalizations for limitations of the game engine. The true goal was to create a sci-fi-esque universe that doesn't require any additional hakpak downloads, other than the CEP.
Another goal was character freedom. Having seen a few otherwise wonderful mods turned sour by strict adherence to FR rules, it was necessary to create a unique universe so that players could feel more free to pursue their own creative whims. This is a Roleplay server, but you only need to know a couple of things to RP well in Itropa: There are no gods, and there is no magic. All magic abilities are explainable through science, but the player is allowed to come up with his own scientific explainations for his or her abilities. Some examples would be psychic powers, genetic manipulation, radioactive mutation, alien heritage, cybernetic implants, embedded weaponry, nanotechnology, or even "I don't know, I've always been able to do this".
Feel free to name your character whatever you want; many non-subrace characters are considered "immigrants" to the continent of Charta, and therefore come from many varied unnamed cultures from all over the planet. Give your character any skin color you want; FR skin colors are still considered "normal", but there's thousands of ways to explain unusual pigmentation. Build your character however you want; no one's going to tell you that your Half-Orc Paladin/Rogue/ShadowDancer is an illegal character, as long as you can RP-justify the combination... and as long don't take a single level of ShadowDancer for cheap PvP tactics.
For those of you who want more background on the world and its inhabitants, read this FAQ thoroughly. But by no means are you required to memorize any of this information... after all, what immigrant truly knows what to expect when he moves to a new land?
Enjoy your stay!
