I was wondering... I keep hearing that rangers only good up to lvl 9, which is when you get improved two-wep fighting. After that aparantly Ranger is pretty much useless cept for bane of enermies and fav enermy. I was wondering, is ranger worth it if you intending to go for an archery based build? (Unless you run out of ammo ^.^)

Turn a Ranger into an Arcane Archer and you can REALLY do some damage.
Check the NWN instruction manual for details on how to do that.

It really depends on why you want to be a Ranger. If you're only interested in it for the free two-weapon fighting, I'd personally go with a Dex-based fighter. But that's just me. If you're looking for an archer character, I'd still go with Fighter, probably Fighter/Wizard/AA. But again, your mileage may vary.
Personally, I have no use for favored enemies, as I never know what I'm going to be fighting. Plus... and I have to confess a little here... there's a LOT of mistakes in Itropa involving an enemy's "base creature". You might think you're fighting humans, but some of them might actually be dragons, as far as the game's internal engine is concerned.
Otoh, Rangers do get an animal companion, and that's pretty neat... just keep in mind that your companion levels as you do, so if you multiclass, your pet won't be as powerful as it could be for that level.

Actually Not so, a brief scan of Itropa revealed only a few base races used (IIRC 9 in total), as I did a rather nice little ranger build. Wielding two bright axes. Add that I too Favored enemies and Bane of enemies and fighter, and you get a rather nice little mincing machine. I think the build Give a total of 2D6+10+strength and weapon enhancements, and 7 attacks.

Oh I got a lvl 40 ranger 9/wiz 1/AA 30 on one server...
The AB is a monster, still... a fighter/wiz/AA would have more feats but I always put ponts into tumble. (For AC) So Rouge based may be an idea... i'll test them out. :3

True msot of them are an applicable crace, however there's a few that are not.
But the point I was making is then umber of Races involved is small enough (Just) to fit in all Player races and about 99% of the used NPC races... I think...

If rangers start off with 1 favoured enemy and gain 1 every 5 levels, at level 40 that's 9 races. Quite a sacrifice, to burn all 40 levels into ranger though.

You can take Favoured enemy as a bonus feat, however the damage bonus only goes up by one per 5 levels, the Epic bonus feat allows you to just widen the amount of enemies you can effect.

Well, Fav enermy is nice but when you go multiclassing like crazy rangers arent excessively practical. Still... one pure ranger I had a long time ago was a monster...
However the AB was nothing like a character with 30 lvls of AA has, on one server I have like, 76 AB and 75 AC
