Okay, so I've been keeping my other mod, "Fairies Vs Dragons", running 24/7 ever since we moved Itropa to ROOT's place. I was hoping I'd get a few visitors, who I could question about how fast/slow the server was running, etc.
So, I've got two computers right next to each other. The new one, running Vista, which I use for everyday stuff. The old one, running XP, which I use to run the server. The XP one is configured all sorts of ways to make it work better as a server. It's the one that's in the network's DMZ. It's the one that's set up with Virtual Servers so others can get through the firewall. It's the one that I put my blood and sweat into getting the server to work.
Okay, so ROOT's been running Itropa for a couple of weeks, and I've kept FVD running, and I've yet to have a single player log on. Does it even show up on Gamespy? I dunno. NWN's an old game, NWN2 is out, and I've not advertised the server, so I'm not expecting a lot of hits.
Okay, so today I update the mod, and test a few things. I go ahead and fire up the server on the Vista computer, just for testing. So now the server is running on both computers. I enter the mod as a player, and I'm in it for about 5 minutes when someone else logs on. On the Vista computer. The one that's firewalled. The one that does not have "Post Game To Internet" checked on the Server. The one... the one... oh, I give up.
I don't know a darn thing about setting up a server. It seems I got lucky once, and I don't even have that computer any more. This one, the Vista, has dual processors like ROOT's, so I could possibly set it up to keep the server running 24/7 if it came to that. But I'd still like to get it to work on the XP one instead.
Edit: Wait, maybe I've got it. Somehow the ports got transposed. The computer that was port 3 is now port 4, and vice versa. It's probably been that way since those Comcast guys were here working on my internet connection.
